A counterfeiting case of Maotai Liquor uncovered, valued 103 million yuan
Recently, after over five months of investigation across four provinces, the police of Binzhou, Shandong Province cracked a large case of counterfeit Maotai liquor sold online. 13 suspects were caught and the case involved 103 million yuan.
According to the official of the Branch for Food, Drugs, Environment Investigation under Binzhou Public Security Bureau, this is a typical case of IPR infringement, because the suspects usually sell the fake liquor through their acquaintance or via online social platforms; the counterfeit production or sales are all based on orders with a strong feature of conceal. It is warned that consumers should buy such products from formal channels and should not easily trust the acquaintance for the sake of lower price, otherwise they may be easily cheated.
