Shanghai police bust jersey counterfeiters

Shanghai police have busted a group selling counterfeit football jerseys in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province.

Police detained six suspects and seized over 30,000 Premier League shirts valued at more than 10,000,000 yuan.

The jerseys, bought by the suspects for 25 yuan each in Guangzhou in April, were repacked and disguised as official jerseys and then sold online for a higher price, said one of the suspects surnamed Huang, quoted by police in Hongkou district, Shanghai.

Police began investigating the counterfeit jerseys after they received tips from football fans.

The case involved Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur jerseys, two teams set to play in the International Championships Cup in Shanghai Hongkou Football Statium on Thursday.

The fans called police when they found the jerseys were of substandard quality. Huo Xingyu contributed to this story.
