Zhejiang police cracked a large case of cigarette counterfeiting and smuggling, with over 10,000 bars detained and valued at over 100 million yuan
Recently, the Xinchang police in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province worked with multiple departments to crack a large case of cigarette counterfeiting and smuggling. Over 15,000 bars of smuggled cigarette covering over 200 varieties of brands were seized, valued at over 100 million yuan. This is the case uncovered of highest value involved in Shaoxing in recent years. The seized cigarettes bearing well-known trademarks and with flaring packages were mostly smuggled from South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Burma and Vietnam to China.
According to the confession by a suspect surnamed Zhou, the cigarettes were sold at a profit of 5 to 50 yuan for each bar and traded at the secret hideouts. The case team gathered over 40 staff to go to Guangdong and Shantou for the capture. 10 suspects were caught, 2 sets of computers, 28 cell phones and 15,813 bars of fake or smuggled cigarettes were detained, valued at over 100 million yuan. Now, the suspects have been imposed upon compulsory criminal measures and the case is pending for further investigation.
